AEHJ-Amer Educ History Journal

The following proposal was presented and discussed at the annual business meeting of the Midwest History of Education Society on October 11, 2008.  Since our by-laws state that a proposal to change the by-laws must be posted for 90 days, we need to wait to have our official vote until the 90 day window has passed.  The vote on this proposal, which replaces “Midwest History of Education Society” with “Organization of Educational Historians,” will take place on-line from December 15, 2008 through December 31, 2008.  Approximately one week before the voting begins, I will send details of the vote to all members in good standing of MHES.

The American Educational History Journal is devoted to the examination of educational questions using perspectives from a variety of disciplines. The editors of AEHJ encourage communication between scholars from numerous disciplines, nationalities, institutions, and backgrounds. Authors come from disciplines ranging from political science to curriculum to philosophy to adult education. Although the main criterion of acceptance for publication in AEHJ requires that each author present a well-articulated argument concerning an educational question, the editors ask that all papers offer a historical analysis.

Each year, AEHJ publishes papers that have been presented at the annual meeting of the Midwest History of Education Society (MHES). MHES is a national society of scholars that meets each fall in Chicago. Before being submitted to AEHJ for potential publication, papers first must be accepted for presentation and then presented formally at the Midwest History of Education Society’s annual meeting in Chicago.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. If I presented a paper at a previous year’s conference (say in 2005), but I want to submit it for consideration for the following year’s journal (say Volume 35, 2008), is this acceptable?

Yes, but not more than one year. Our policy has been to allow papers presented one year, and one year only, prior to the year in which the manuscript is submitted. In other words, manuscripts from the 2005 conference can be submitted for Volume 34, 2007, but not manuscripts from the 2004 conference (unless previous manuscripts have been submitted and the Editor has invited the author to revise and resubmit the MS).
