Rove-in’ around campus

You never know who might make an appearance at good ole’ BU. Presidential political adviser Karl Rove breakfasted yesterday on campus with students in Baylor’s executive MBA program. On Wednesday, a grad student spotted Rove in the downtown Waco Hilton and slipped him a handwritten invite. Rove readily obliged and spent an hour and a half with students the next morning. To have such a high profile figure drop in for breakfast is quite a unique opportunity. Read the complete Waco Trib article here.

That deeeluxe apartment in the sky
Posted by The Baylor Proud Team in : Photo Galleries, Student lifeAbout 2,500 new Bears arrived on campus August 14 and 15. The move-in process was as smooth as butter with the 2,000 well-organized volunteer Baylor students, faculty and staff and area church members assisting literally at every turn. As construction workers hustled to place the finishing touches on the exterior of Brooks Village, the new students and volunteers braved Waco’s hottest weather this year to get moved in before noon, avoiding the worst of the heat.
Nearly 4 out of 10 Bears will live on campus this year, up from 29% in 2001, which makes campus life that much more loud and proud! Kudos to everyone who gave their time and sweat to make the freshmen feel at home, and good luck to all you new Bears. We hope you love it here.

Not-so-ancient history
Posted by The Baylor Proud Team in : Research, HonorsLooking back, it seems like every history professor I ever had was ancient. When my junior high history teacher was talking about the signing of the Magna Carta, I figured he had been there that day.
There are young historians out there, though — and Baylor has one of the best. Earlier this month, The History News Network named Dr. Thomas Kidd one of 20 Top Young Historians from all across the world based on his contributions to the area of historical research. Kidd has focused on 18th-century North American history, especially the history of evangelism.
Sic ’em, Dr. Kidd!
